HandyGames has rebranded as THQ Nordic Mobile, creating a clearer mobile identity for THQ Nordic while retaining the existing team, leadership, operations, and more than 25 years of development experience.
After more than two decades as HandyGames, the German developer and publisher has officially adopted a new identity: THQ Nordic Mobile.
The rebrand brings HandyGames more closely under the THQ Nordic banner, several years after the company was acquired by THQ Nordic in 2018.
The name is changing, but the existing studio, leadership, team, and operations will continue under the new identity.
Importantly, this isn't a new studio replacing HandyGames. The existing team, leadership, and operations will continue under the new name, with the change primarily intended to create a clearer connection between the mobile business and the wider THQ Nordic brand.
HandyGames has a long history in mobile development, dating back to 2000 and an era when mobile gaming looked very different from the industry we know today.
Over the years, the company has worked across mobile, PC, and console, with its catalogue including titles such as Townsmen, Titan Quest, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, and Wreckfest on mobile devices.
The company says the THQ Nordic Mobile name better represents its place within the wider organisation and its ambitions moving forward.
For THQ Nordic, the move also establishes a much clearer dedicated mobile identity.
The wider company is known for an enormous catalogue of games and franchises across PC and console, while HandyGames has provided it with established experience in bringing premium gaming experiences to mobile platforms.
Rebranding the business as THQ Nordic Mobile makes that relationship considerably more obvious to players, developers, and potential partners.
More than 25 years of mobile development isn't disappearing. The HandyGames name may be changing, but its experience and history are being carried forward as THQ Nordic Mobile.
Despite the new name, don't expect HandyGames' history to simply disappear. More than 25 years of mobile development experience is now being carried forward under the THQ Nordic banner.
