Firefighters Together isn’t your average party game. It’s a chaotic, laughter-fueled tribute to the courage and teamwork of real-life emergency responders, wrapped in a charming cartoon aesthetic and packed with slapstick fun. Developed by solo dev Burak Piskin, this indie gem throws players into blazing buildings, cat-filled trees, and the kind of unpredictable messes only a group of firefighting rookies could create.
But behind the light-hearted chaos lies a surprisingly personal story, born from a memorable D&D session and shaped by determination, late-night testing, and one developer’s ambition to make something truly fun.
The origin of Firefighters Together is as wild as its gameplay. One night during a casual Dungeons & Dragons session, Burak and his siblings found their adventurers dealing with an accidental fire in a small village. The result? Panic, teamwork, and lots of laughter.
“That short two-hour adventure was what sparked the idea,” Burak told us.
“After that, I thought, ‘Why not turn such a fun memory into a real game?’”
From that moment, the project quickly caught fire (pun fully intended). Originally intended to feature just six maps, the game expanded as Burak’s passion - and a bit of scope creep - took hold. Today, it features a full-fledged Party Mode, with five mini-games, randomized rounds, and the coveted title of Top Firefighter up for grabs.
While the final product oozes fun, development was anything but easy. Firefighters Together was Burak’s first foray into online multiplayer, and creating a stable, networked game using Unity and C# pushed him to new technical heights.
“The biggest challenge I faced was building the multiplayer system,” he said.
“I had never developed an online game before, so setting a solid foundation using Netcode took quite a bit of time.”
Even organizing a playtest proved more complicated than expected - finding the right testers, setting up reliable systems, and managing chaos. But watching players laugh and bond through the fire-fighting madness made every hurdle worth it.
The game uses Netcode for GameObjects alongside the Steamworks API for its backend, allowing for smooth online gameplay and future updates. And yes - those updates are already in the pipeline.
“Since I plan to add more mini-games in the future, I built the system to be modular from the start. All updates will be completely free."
Whether you’re trying to put out a spreading fire, save a stuck kitten, or just keep your teammates from tripping over a firehose, Firefighters Together captures the frantic joy of couch co-op and online play. It’s a game built around chaos, but held together by clever design, a love for community, and a deep appreciation for the heroes that inspired it.
It’s also a testament to what a solo developer can achieve with a great idea, a strong support network, and a touch of D&D-fueled inspiration.
🧯 Firefighters Together is out now on Steam. Grab your hose, round up your crew, and prepare to start fires… we mean fight fires.
Keep Calm and waka waka...
