Warhorse Studios Confirms New Kingdom Come Project and Open-World Lord of the Rings RPG

Warhorse Studios has officially confirmed it is working on two brand-new projects - including a new entry connected to Kingdom Come: Deliverance and an open-world RPG set in the world of The Lord of the Rings.

The announcement has quickly generated excitement across the gaming community, particularly following Warhorse’s growing reputation for immersive RPG experiences and detailed world-building.

In a statement published on the studio’s official website, Warhorse described the announcement as “A New Chapter,” confirming that the team is “working on a new RPG set in Middle-earth.” The studio added that it has “always been creating worlds full of stories that pull you in” and said that’s “exactly the kind of Middle-earth” it hopes to eventually deliver.

While full details remain limited, reports suggest the Middle-earth project will be an open-world RPG, immediately sparking curiosity about what Warhorse’s grounded and highly detailed design philosophy could look like when applied to one of fantasy’s most iconic universes.

Warhorse became widely known for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a medieval RPG praised for its realism, historical authenticity, and immersive approach to storytelling. Because of that background, many fans are already speculating that the studio could bring a more grounded and believable interpretation of Middle-earth compared to previous Lord of the Rings adaptations.

Alongside the fantasy project, Warhorse also reassured fans that “there’s still more to come from the world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance,” confirming that another project connected to the franchise is currently in development.

The combination of both announcements has placed the studio firmly in the spotlight. Developing a follow-up to one of the most respected medieval RPGs of recent years while simultaneously tackling a Lord of the Rings RPG is an ambitious move — and one that has already generated major anticipation among RPG fans.

For Lord of the Rings players especially, the prospect of exploring a modern open-world Middle-earth RPG from a studio known for immersive world-building is an exciting one.
