Games Jobs Direct at Develop:Brighton and the Game Dev Heroes Awards

Develop conference was a fantastic success. Over a few beautifully sunny days in Brighton, we were able to meet-up with and chat to so many incredibly talented and friendly people from this industry that we all love so much.

For those who don’t know, Develop: Brighton is a conference, expo and networking event held every year at the beginning of July in Brighton. As a result, Brighton gets even busier than usual, filled with hundreds of game developers and enthusiasts.

As well as attending the expo we also had the pleasure of sponsoring the Game Dev Heroes awards, held on the Tuesday 9th of July 2019. Growing considerably from 2018, with 100 people in a small room in a pub, the venue (Komedia) was incredibly busy and, thankfully, air-conditioned!

Game Dev Heroes is an awards ceremony set up to reward the unsung heroes of game development. Although studios around the world might have cabinets full of trophies for the biggest and best games out there, those people behind the scenes, who made those amazing games happen, may not have been recognised in the same way. That's what the Game Dev Heroes Awards are for, for the heroic Producers, the amazing Art & Animation creators and the stellar QAs.

“It was absolutely brilliant to be able to see the reactions of so many talented game developers receiving awards for their work. It feels like they can sometimes get overlooked for all the hard work they put in, but they were all front and center at the awards! We loved it.” – Jamie Clarke

To find out more about the Game Dev Heroes awards - including all the winners for 2019 - check out their website.

For the rest of Develop we spoke to what felt like hundreds of games industry folks, both new and old friends, and got to try out some awesome games. We can't wait to do it all again next year!

Until then, you'll be able to chat to Games Jobs Direct Marketing Manager, Abbie at Gamescom this August. Contact her on Twitter or drop her an email at abbie@gamesjobsdirect.com if you want to meet up and chat all things GJD, games, marketing or just to say hey ðŸ‘‹
