KitBash has acquired ArtStation and Sketchfab from Epic Games, bringing both platforms into the same creative ecosystem as KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla. For creators, no immediate changes to portfolios, libraries, or core workflows are planned.
Two of the biggest platforms used by digital artists and 3D creators are changing hands, with KitBash acquiring ArtStation and Sketchfab from Epic Games.
The deal brings both platforms under the same company as KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla, creating a sizeable creative ecosystem spanning 3D assets, materials, tools, education, portfolios, artist discovery, and online 3D publishing.
“We’re excited to share that ArtStation and Sketchfab are joining KitBash’s portfolio of creative platforms alongside KitBash3D and Greyscalegorilla.”
KitBash says the goal is to build a more connected creative ecosystem across its growing portfolio.
For artists already using either platform, the important news is that there are no immediate changes planned.
KitBash says existing ArtStation portfolios, Sketchfab libraries, and core workflows will continue operating as they do today.
The company's first priority, according to Co-CEO Banks Boutté, is to protect what creators already value about the platforms while listening to their communities before deciding what comes next.
ArtStation and Sketchfab are deeply embedded in the workflows of artists, game developers, and 3D creators.
That reassurance is particularly important for ArtStation users, many of whom use the platform as their primary professional portfolio when applying for roles across games, VFX, animation, and other creative industries.
For artists who rely on ArtStation as part of their professional identity, continuity matters. Even relatively small changes to portfolio tools, visibility, or discovery features can have a direct impact on how creators showcase their work and find opportunities.
For Epic Games, the sale also signals a sharpening of priorities.
The company says it is increasingly focusing its resources around Unreal Engine 6, Fortnite, its developer ecosystem, and the Epic Games Store.
ArtStation and Sketchfab have both spent the past five years within Epic, so the move represents a significant change for two platforms deeply embedded within the game art and development community.
What KitBash eventually does with them remains to be seen, but bringing portfolios, 3D publishing, assets, education, and creative tools under one roof could open up some interesting possibilities.
For now, though, it's business as usual for creators.
Keep Calm and waka waka...
