We're looking for a Senior Level Designer for an upcoming open-world action sports game focussing on authenticity and adrenaline-filled experiences in Unreal Engine 5.

Third Kind Games is one of the largest independently owned game development studios in the UK, based in Royal Leamington Spa. We also have remote studios in Poland and Spain. Our three studios are built on the same original spirit and values since our beginning.

Founded in 2016 by nine leaders in the industry, with extensive experience in the development of critically acclaimed titles such as Guitar Hero Live and DiRT, we've been growing ever since. Today we work with some of the biggest names in the games industry such as Blizzard, Amazon, Microsoft and Mythical Games.

Alongside several new high-profile, unannounced projects, our team is also working on our own IP, so TKG is an incredibly exciting place to be right now. We are also setting new benchmarks for creativity in the games industry, driving technical expertise in programming alongside creative innovation.

Role Overview

You enjoy:

  • Designing, setting up and balancing game content and systems to give players the best possible experience including mission placement, difficulty tuning and progression.
  • Working closely with our teams on new level implementation, whilst upholding the design vision.
  • High standards and writing high-quality documentation to deliver coherent and compelling visions of game features.
  • Understanding our consumer needs and ensuring the level designs developed by the team will contribute to player satisfaction and enjoyment, making our games more fun to play.
  • Making useful contributions to our creative planning sessions, scrums, and retrospectives and helping drive the development of our projects and the team.
  • Working with our team to support the delivery of fresh and innovative ideas for games.

What we are looking for from a Third Kinder

You would:
  • Have an understanding of the design principles behind games, with an interest in developing levels that enhance and innovate the game design.
  • Have experience in designing fun and innovative levels for open-world games with 1st and / or 3rd player perspective, whilst championing the player experience.
  • Demonstrate level building from whitebox block out all the way through to release standard.
  • Be motivated by creative freedom, ground-breaking challenges, and unknown territory.
  • Prefer a creative, open-thinking environment and have a passion for working on a wide variety of tasks.
  • Be naturally inquisitive, you keep up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends and cascade accordingly.

Skills you need
  • 5+ years industry experience in game level design positions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to design level features that keeps players wanting more.
  • UE XP and experience within an open world game development environment.
  • Proven ability to write concise, well-written and compelling design documentation.

Skills it would be great to have

Experience with:
  • Mentoring and assisting your colleagues to support their personal development.
