About the role:
Roblox Research presents a tremendous international laboratory for experiments at scale with users, data, client devices, and servers. We're looking for experts to focus on the following areas:
- Distributed Systems: Focus on scaling real-time interactive experiences to tens of thousands of players in the same fully-simulated environment
- Voice and Natural Language Processing: Focus on applying NLP, machine learning, and signal processing techniques for chat moderation, voice avatars, latency and bandwidth minimization, real-time natural-language translation, quality, Text-to-Speech (TTS)/Speech-to-Text (STT), accessibility, and 3D audio
- Content Creation: Focus on 3D graphics and geometry synthesis and processing, animation and physical simulation, emphasis on AI gen and machine learning with applications on geometry, procedural generation and code synthesis and editing, including performance and related topics
You Have: - Pursuing or recently completed a PhD or equivalent in computer science, engineering, or related field with thesis aligned to Roblox research areas
- Published and presented multiple peer-reviewed articles in top-tier venues
- Excellent coding skills, and preferably experience with building large-scale systems
You Will: - Work closely with researchers and engineers to research and develop improvements to push our technology forward
- Establish collaborations and perform research with leading faculty around the world
- Perform hands-on research, including programming for experiments and prototypes
- Publish and present research findings in top-tier peer-reviewed venues
- Transfer technology into the product by shepherding it through engineering
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
