As an Principal Audio Software Engineer,you will make the Roblox soundscape the best it can be. You will build and achieve a plan to harness the creativity of user-generated games and apply industry-leading algorithms and methods to envelop the player in something that's amazing, no matter whether the target platform is mobile, desktop, console or VR.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of Audio software engineering experience
  • Worked with interactive and physically based audio, generally in a gaming environment
  • Fluent signal processing: You understand digital signal processing, human hearing, physical modeling, and ad-hoc audio algorithms
  • Good systems level C++ programming: Pointers, templates, and raw blocks of memory are tools to write code, not your enemies
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver projects that keep working once they're done
  • Engine/platform oriented: You might have helped develop a game engine from scratch, or done other similar projects
  • Lead a team and mentor junior engineers
  • Report directly into the Engineering Manager
  • Develop engine code that generates awesome audio for all user-created games on the Roblox platform
  • Create easy to use yet powerful tools for sound design
  • Carry the torch for the future of audio in user-generated games
  • Optimize audio implementations to conserve battery on mobile phones while being amazingly realistic on high-end platforms


For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$315,850-$383,910 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
