We're looking for a talented VFX Artist to join our Sea of Thieves development team, working alongside Rare. You will be creating particle effects and shaders for gameplay assets, weapons, cosmetics, characters, screen effects and more! This is an excellent opportunity for an artist with a passion for stylised VFX to work on a huge, well-established live service game.

Responsibilities

  • Work with both our internal team and Rare to both design and author beautiful and efficient particle VFX.
  • Create textures in software packages such as Photoshop and Substance.
  • Create 3D models, animations and simulations where necessary in Maya or equivalent.
  • Create Unreal Engine shaders for VFX.
  • Review and implement feedback from Directors.
  • Effectively manage your time alongside leads and production to meet release deadlines.


Job requirements

Required Experience
  • Experience of using 3rd party engines such as Unreal Engine.
  • Experience creating realtime particle effects.
  • Good knowledge of 3D art tools such as Maya, Max or Blender, and 2D Art tools such as Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of art pipelines in game development studios.
  • An understanding of shaders.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with designers, coders, tech artists and art directors.
  • Great communication and problem solving skills.
  • A keen interest and passion for stylised VFX.

Desired Experience
  • Experience on AAA console games.
  • Experience on a live service title.
  • Technical knowledge of console performance, specifications and limitations.
  • Knowledge of tools such as Houdini and Embergen to generate assets for realtime VFX.
  • An ability to communicate your ideas visually, via 2D/3D concepting or image/video splicing.


Important

The interview process for the VFX Artist role is made up of 2 stages:
  • First interview (45 minutes) - An informal chat to discuss your experience and working history relating to the position with members of our VFX team. In return, we will provide a full overview of the role, life at the studio as well as answer any questions you may have.
  • Art test (5 days) - We will send you an Art test to complete following on from a successful 1st stage interview.
  • Final interview (30 minutes) - A final Interview with our Studio Head and Studio Production Director. This will be a chance for you to get to know the Senior Management team and all the things that make Lucid, Lucid! You will have a lot of opportunities to ask any questions about the studio and Culture.
