We're looking for a Senior Technical Designer to join the team working on an exciting unannounced next gen 3rd person shooter. As part of the gameplay design team the Senior Technical Designer will work closely with the Lead Gameplay Designer and NPC Lead to shape and implement world class combat gameplay, mechanics and encounters.
Responsibilities
- Design enemies, boss fights, weapon systems, combat manager, archetypes and more
- Work closely with other departments to bring core features to life
- Provide technical leadership by setting guidelines and benchmarks for the team
- Create and maintain supporting design documentation
- Champion player experience and combat gameplay
- Mentor junior designers
- Collaborate with animation, engineering, art and audio teams to create visceral and stylish combat
Job requirementsRequired Skills and Experience
- Previous experience on a shooter or 3rd person title, as a combat designer
- Shipped at least one completed title as a designer
- Experience working with AI visual scripting tools
- Experience with level editing tools and scripting (Unreal Engine or similar)
- Ability to breakdown and analyse mechanics to understand what key elements make for fantastic game design
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including verbal and written skills
- A willingness to receive feedback, iterating if required and improving your craft as a whole
- Clear understanding of the different areas of the production pipeline and how they collaborate to form intuitive and engaging moment to moment gameplay
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience working with AI Behaviour Trees and/or Finite State Machines
- Experience using scripting languages (LUA, Python etc)
- Technical skills needed to create first-pass implementations of features yourself, using existing tools

The interview process for the Senior Technical Designer role is made up of 3 stages:
First interview (45 minutes) - An informal chat to discuss your experience and working history relating to the position with members of our Design team. In return, we will provide a full overview of the role, life at the studio as well as answer any questions you may have.
Second interview (45 minutes) - Second Interview with our Studio Creative Director and Studio Design Director. This role will be focussed on the project and your skills and experience. You will have the opportunity to understand how our design teams work and the overall structure of our teams.
Final interview (30 minutes) - A final Interview with our Studio Head and Studio Production Director. This will be a chance for you to get to know the Senior Management team and all the things that make Lucid, Lucid! You will have a lot of opportunities to ask any questions about the studio and Culture.
