Company and Culture

Developing VR training to eliminate medical error and save lives. Medical procedures need to be taught in a way that is safe, standardised and scalable – using the technology of today and tomorrow. This studio provides a ground-breaking comprehensive medical simulation environment, in Virtual Reality, that is used to train healthcare workers to perform fundamental and high-impact medical procedures.

Their training platform offers high visual fidelity and physics-based interactions for realism. Fine details, such as accurate hand poses and animations, ensure simulations provide effective medical teaching and training. Studies have shown that this dramatically improves knowledge retention and reduces error for those learning new procedures!

Their team is diverse, multi-talented & passionate about using their skills to develop technology that is world-leading, pushing technology to its limits, in order to have a profound positive impact on both the medical community and the lives of patients. They are looking for people who want to have an impact and help build something amazing, people with initiative, people with infectious enthusiasm and people with a love of what they do. If this sounds like you, please read on.

The Role

Looking for experienced and talented software engineers. In this role, you will work collaboratively with a cross-functional team of medics and 3D artists as you:

  • Design and architect software at subsystem or component level
  • Implement designs within the simulation engine, or within the visual engine (or both!) with awareness of customer requirements and product roadmap
  • Take responsibility for the testing (and unit testing) of your own code and others
  • Balance the formal processes required for high quality software development with the rapid and flexible approaches appropriate for an evolving product that is leading the market.
  • Lead others, whether formally or informally, in process, quality, state-of-the-art techniques, and contribute to an environment of continuous learning (compatible with your experience)
  • Have the ability to work autonomously, but also collaborate with others when appropriate
  • Embrace technical challenges and problems that have never been solved before, offering multiple solutions and recommendations based on your evaluation of them

This studio is undergoing a sustained period of rapid growth, including excellent traction in their global expansion, and is particularly seeking key personnel who will both drive this growth and form part of the company’s backbone that it will build upon.

Key Requirements

  • Senior level experience with ~10 years experience
  • Wide programming experience, but particularly being strong in modern C++
  • Experience with a modern graphics engine is highly advantageous
  • Experience within a real-time simulation (training) environment is beneficial
  • Thorough experience with and understanding of mid to high level software design and architecture, particularly of a long-lived and evolving product
  • Strong focus on software quality, reliability and performance

Work is where you are

  • Remote-first company since their inception in 2017
  • They recognise that the flexibility of working from home can enable people to be more productive while also helping them achieve a rewarding and positive balance with other areas of their life.
  • With most work occurring remotely, collaboration enabled by technology is critical. You will likely collaborate and communicate more than you did when working in an office!
  • This studio is founded on their Core Pillars that guide and shape their culture: communication, compassion, acknowledgement, respect, encouragement and ownership.

Please note for this role candidates will need to have the following equipment at their home office

•    Min 32GB RAM
•    Min 1TB storage - recommend a fast SSD (NVMe preferred).
•    Decent graphics card - desktop Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti equivalent or better.  Strongly recommend Nvidia as they may require Nvidia in the future.
•    Decent CPU - Intel or AMD.  The faster the better, but anything current generation would be fine.
•    Meta/Oculus VR Headset.  Recommend Quest 2.
•    Windows operating system
