Established by Scott Kirkland - BAFTA nominated local games industry veteran and co-founder of (Sony) Evolution Studios and Secret Sorcery - the studio's mandate is to build a world-class team of technologists and creatives to provide efficient and effective solutions to prestigious partners from around the world, working on some of the biggest, newest and most popular IPs and platforms along the way!

The Role @ Sumo

Our Senior Programmers are critical to our development pipeline. In addition to programming, you'll mentor and develop more junior members of the team, and embrace best practices, maintaining quality, avoiding unnecessary complexity and striving for efficiency.

You'll be responsible for developing and maintaining robust game, engine and tool functionality in collaboration with Technical Leadership and the wider team to fulfil technical and creative requirements. You'll contribute to the creation and maintenance of realistic schedules in collaboration with Technical Leadership and Project Management, communicating progress and impediments as they arise.


Within this role you will:


  • Proven and respected engineer with a positive, can-do attitude and a history of success on significant projects;
  • Excellent cross-discipline communicator;
  • Broad and deep contemporary knowledge of game systems, engines and PC/console platforms;
  • Expert knowledge of C++, proficient in other relevant languages;
  • Goal orientated, proactive and methodical problem-solver;
  • Strong 3D math skills;
  • Proficient and pragmatic in debugging and profiling/optimisation;
  • Quality-minded, with great attention to detail;
  • Passionate about games and game technology;



  • We need you to have:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related subject;
  • Experience of platform service integration and platform-holder requirements;
  • Knowledge of commercial game engines and middleware;
  • Experience of localisation/culturalization pipelines and considerations;
  • Knowledge of continuous integration and build distribution systems;
  • Development experience spanning multiple genres;



  • You will also need to:


  • Think critically, and apply analytical skills in resolving complex issues
  • Find and fix complex bugs in any area of the project
  • Create and own complex systems from start to finish
  • Author technical designs and best practices
  • Plan work and meet deadlines designated for team projects
