Gameforge – navigating the pandemic in Germany

Gameforge may have developed into one of the leading providers of online games in the world with over 450 million players – but the last 2 years haven’t come without their challenges.

For game studios, a pandemic is the brainchild of a script writer, not something they would typically account for in their strategic plan. However, Gameforge really went above and beyond placing the wellbeing of their workforce above all else.

Homeforge

The studio switched to working from home even before it was recommended by the German Government. They were already putting measures in place in the background and foresaw the ruling. When the change happened (literally overnight) - Homeforge was born!

The studio is now in the process of changing all their contracts to support a hybrid working model, giving their workforce much more flexibility and the choice to work from home or HQ, as and when it suits.

Vaccinations

Vaccination appointments can be hard to get in some regions of Germany, it’s not always straight forward. As a result, Gameforge were proactive and offered all its team members the chance to get vaccinated at HQ. Marta (below) was one of the many employees who took advantage of the incentive.

Leadership

Tom, the Chief Officer Customers & HR Executive Board Member was extremely supportive throughout the establishment of Homeforge. From day one, he has sent out regular Logmails that discuss both Product & Company related matters, but most importantly give the latest Covid related news from Germany. This has been a particularly useful resource for the non-German speaking team members.
