Nordeus - A Company Recommendation - an outside perspective
Successful independent mobile games developer Nordeus is recruiting a localization coordinator!
The studio composed of 160 talented developers are the brains behind Top Eleven, one of the most successful online sports games ever made with over 150 million registered users, and Spellsouls, a real-time card-based MOBA.
Based in the uniquely vibrant city of Belgrade, Nordeus promotes a self-described open, dynamic and collaborative culture which works in small, empowered teams.
We believe this is a great opportunity at a great studio who takes care of their employees. To put the minds at ease of those who would find the prospect of moving to another country intimidating, Sebastian Zimmerman, a freelance 3D character Artist, has written about his time at Nordeus and how helpful the team were with accommodating his commute from Berlin.
“As a freelance 3D Character Artist working mainly in the gaming industry, I’ve seen my fair share of calls for open positions on LinkedIn. However, these are almost always recommendations for individual positions and not for companies as a whole.
In the beginning of 2016, I got the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and the chance to grow. I took on an incredible new challenge after being approached by Nordeus.
A game studio based in Belgrade, Serbia, they were best known for the mobile football manager Top Eleven but they asked me to help them set up a AAA character pipeline and to kickstart production on their new visually ambitious title Spellsouls: Duel of Legends.
When their Head of Art, Daryl Clewlow, first got in contact with me, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to manage a weekly commute from Berlin to Belgrade. I was concerned that my weekly absences would have a negative effect on my family. But I was tempted by the professional challenge and the opportunity to build things from scratch.
Two weeks after my first chat with Daryl, I found myself bang in the middle of a highly skilled and super excited team. Within days, I was drawing-up a sketch of the Character Production Pipeline on a whiteboard.
Nordeus’ Human Resource team took care of me very well. The most welcoming and kind-hearted bunch of people I’ve met in the gaming industry, they made my life as easy as it could be: not only did they make it so easy for me to travel to and from Belgrade every week, they always did all they could every time I reached out to them. And I saw them do this, not just with me, but with everyone in the company. Time and again, I saw them patiently listen to everyone’s ideas, thoughts and feedback with the only goal to get better.”
