After just four hours on Kickstarter, boutique video game studio, Failbetter Games, successfully funded their new game, Sunless Skies, earlier this month.
Failbetter Games, well-known for the Victorian-gothic aesthetic which runs deep in all their games, has successfully raised over £377,000 for their new game, Sunless Skies. The game acts as a successor to the studios first PC game, Sunless Sea, which garnered critical acclaim and a number of awards and nominations which praised the game’s use of narrative.
Set ten years after the events of Sunless Sea, the user joins an exodus led by Queen Victoria to go above and beyond the sea and take to the skies in a spacefaring locomotive to behold the wonders of the heavens.
Developers of the game say they intend to build upon what made the previous game a success, while working on improving other parts of the game. One area that the developers tell Kickstarter that they’re working on is improving the experience of users when they die and have to restart the game. Sunless Skies will see users continue the legacy of their perished character and inherit a portion of their predecessor’s wealth and experience in a reshuffled map.
Sunless Skies is estimated to be released May 2018.
