Sumo Digital is one of the UK's most prolific and secure independent game developers with a talented team spread across four UK Studios; Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle and The Chinese Room in Brighton, along with our India studio in Pune. The Nottingham studio became part of the Sumo Digital family in March of 2016.
Based in the Castle Marina area of the city and with Nottingham castle dominating the skyline, the new studio is a state-of-the-art space dedicated to supporting the highest calibre of game developments most creative people. The environment has been designed to be open, light and bright and to provide a creative and flexible space against which a new team can develop the latest ideas for today's gaming platforms.
Our Nottingham studio is a real community of game loving, talented people who have a broad set of skills across a diverse range of games types including first-person shooter and racing games. We have been working hard on our first two projects - Team Sonic Racing for Sega and Project Nova for CCP and are about to embark on new projects.

As a Network Programmer at Sumo Nottingham you will be responsible for the day to day development of the networking features across several titles and platforms. You will be responsible for the implementation of all multiplayer and online features within the games we produce. This includes working on the major console network systems, Xbox live, PlayStation Network, Steam, and others, as well as potential interaction with existing social platforms. You will help with the design and specification of these systems, agreeing your own timescales and deadlines with the lead engineer who will be your direct report and line manager.
In a typical day you will be required to solve problems ranging from debugging of network issues, to refining gameplay whilst online. You will need to be familiar with network debugging and monitoring tools, including Fiddler, Wireshark and others, and will know how to use these tools to resolve complex networking and routing issues. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to explain the issues you are solving to your peers effectively. Finally, you will be capable of working at a high standard and hold yourself to the highest levels of quality.

- 3+ years C++ experience, coding and debugging.
- 2+ years experience of networking code, including in-depth knowledge of at least one network packet sniffer (wireshark, fiddler, or other).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- At least 1 shipped title (preferably on console) with experience of network implementation.
