Temporary Shader/Material Artist

Volition is seeking a temporary shader/material artist to assist in creating and innovating shaders for real-time environments and models, and authoring believable PBR environment materials for use in the world. Using our proprietary node-based shader editor, and tools such as Substance designer, you will work with our Materials team to help deliver the visual goals of our unannounced project. We’re looking for someone with a passion for shaders, materials, and open world games.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and create shaders, workflows, and pipelines for content creation in third-person open world streaming games
• Work closely with Tech Art and rendering programmers to achieve visual goals within limitations and maintain good performance on current-gen platforms
• Work with the Art Director and team leads to develop smooth workflows and process to produce high quality and visually competitive content
• Communicate effectively with the materials team to fulfill the visual goals
• Creating photorealistic texturing including multiple PBR workflows

Requirements:
• Understanding highpoly and lowpoly workflows
• Experience with PBR materials/shaders and an understanding of UV space
• Experience with node-based editors including Unreal, Shader Forge, or something similar
• Experience with Substance Designer
• Basic knowledge of industry-standard supplemental tools (e.g. Photoshop, 3Ds Max)
• A degree of self-motivation and initiative
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of the latest real time shading and lighting techniques
• An extensive portfolio that demonstrates expertise in material/shader creation

PREFERENCES:
• A knowledge of a broad array of industry standard third party content creation tools (Maya, Marmoset, Substance Painter, Keyshot)
• Strong traditional art or graphic art foundations: including but not limited to concept art and illustration
• Familiarity with third-person action games
• Basic Familiarity with asset tracking and issue tracking tools such as Perforce and Hansoft
• Strong 3D math and linear algebra skills
