Demonware creates and provides the online services behind hugely popular video game franchises such as Call of Duty and Skylanders. We do matchmaking, microtransactions, and data analytics for almost half a billion users. Demonware has offices in Dublin, Ireland; Vancouver, Canada; and Shanghai, China, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc.

Demonware's Titles Department is responsible for developing, launching and maintaining services for some of the world's largest gaming franchises. We are looking for an experienced Software Development Test Engineer to join this department to work on a new class of free-to-play AAA titles.

Role and Responsibilities:

As part of the engineering team, your focus will be will be on robustness, performance and testability, playing a key role in the creation of backend game features and services by the team.

You must be able to understand the development process and creating high quality, maintainable code for our automated testing framework.

You will work in a fast-paced environment and will need to demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies, make progress quickly and with the maturity to identify and fill gaps.

Candidates must enjoy working collaboratively with development and operations engineers.

Be responsible for all aspects of test engineering for DW features. This will include working closely with software developers and operations engineers to create solid core designs and enable testability of the products.

Conduct technical reviews throughout the development process. This would include reviews of the test environments, test plans, test cases, and results.

Create, where appropriate, test automation for all aspects of the team's features including core use cases, performance, reliability and stress testing.

Participate in specification reviews, design reviews, and code reviews, to represent and enhance the quality side of the business.

Identify feature risk areas and mitigate them through targeted testing.

Look to determine root-cause of issues found during functional, regression and ad-hoc testing.

Work with the developers to define and write automated test cases for the features they are working on to ensure proper test coverage is achieved.

Plan, design, execute and report on stress and performance tests, in collaboration with other developers.

Be the advocate for testability, driving engineering best practices and defect prevention.

Integrate and improve existing test tools.

Assist with troubleshooting problems with online and multiplayer features

Assist in other initiatives and projects as requested or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, related degree or equivalent experience.

5 or more years of experience in a relevant testing field.

2 or more years experience coding and debugging in Python.

1+ years experience with performance/load testing and results analysis

Good understanding of software testing methods and processes.

Good understanding of the software development lifecycle including, but not limited to, agile software development methodology (Scrum or Kanban) and the role played by a Test Engineer.

Ability to demonstrate a strong skill-set in analytical problem solving, a history of increasing responsibilities and decision-making experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral communications.

Has initiative, and is able to complete complex tasks with minimal supervision

Enjoys working with a myriad of developers on a day-to-day basis


Have a passion for gaming

Experience and understanding of the networking layer

Exposure to database technology

Experience in system administration of *nix operating systems (data center or cloud settings)
