We are looking for a talented lead concept artist to work with the lead artist, game director, brand manager and content leads to help push the overall visual style of Total War: Arena to the next level.
The Lead Concept Artist will have outstanding fundamental traditional fine art skills with a deep understanding of modern concept art software/tools that demonstrates excellent creative, technical and visual skills. The Lead Concept Artist is responsible for generating a variety of industry leading AAA character concepts, environment concepts, matte paintings and graphic design/UI imagery to aid in the artistic development of Total War: Arena. The candidate will provide direction, feedback and mentorship where applicable towards increasing quality and efficiency of Total War: Arena's concept art creation.
As the Lead Concept Artist, you will coordinate with Lead Artist, Game Director, Brand Manager, Concept Artists, and Content Leads on assignments for the concept art team, ensuring the concept art team meets milestone goals at high quality.
You will create style sheets and help champion reference gathering efforts with a view to bringing clarity to visual direction of the project goals. You will also provide additional visual direction to team production artists to ensure visual design of content is clear and within brand.
In the role of Lead Concept Artist, you will be passionate about your work. You will create sketches and detailed renderings of battle maps which include infield and outfield terrains, props and individual environmental elements, turnarounds for characters. You will also create environment concept art, matte paintings, and architecture studies.
This is a key role on the project and you will motivate, mentor and inspire the project concept art team, guiding them through various stages of production with clear direction. You will also be required to participate in relevant meetings and discussions to ensure team goals are being meet at a high quality, within scope, in style, and on brand.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience
- Excellent traditional artistic skills with a strong grasp of composition, anatomy, colour theory, perspective, lighting, environment, architectural, character, costume and graphic design
- Experience leading and mentoring other artists
- Must be proficient with 2D applications such as Photoshop, Painter, Illustrator
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Must have an active, passionate interest in current video games to help drive the game to the next level
- Comfortable working quickly within an agile development process
- At least one shipped AAA game
- Knowledge of games development pipelines
- All round art ability
- Love of games
