Monitoring Senior Engineer/Technical Lead

Demonware's Monitoring team is evolving, moving away from a manual, reactive NOC-style approach to a modern, automation-driven process. We are looking for a passionate engineer to take on a senior engineering role, exerting technical leadership to help us design, build, deploy, maintain and support systems and services pursuant to that goal. Right now, we're building a monitoring and auto-remediation platform to remove the need for 24/7 active coverage. We also work closely with all teams at Demonware to continually improve the quality of application and service monitoring to assist developers in creating high-quality products that result in high-quality game services.

We are the eyes of the company, responsible for watching all Demonware games and systems 24/7 and building the tools to do so. From our vantage point overseeing the company's products and services, we are responsible for first-level triage support for all title events, services and systems, additionally operating as the single point-of-contact for other Activision studios and Activision Customer Support when they require Demonware's assistance.

This position is a full-time position at Demonware's Irish office in Dublin city centre. The team works closely with its counterpart in Vancouver, Canada, and infrequent travel may be requested.

Job duties include:


Help drive technical direction and implementation of monitoring strategy aligned with Demonware's goals



Participate in project and work planning sessions



Engage other teams at Demonware to understand their systems and services to improve monitoring coverage and quality of Demonware/Activision games and other online services



Take a leadership role with code, architecture and design reviews for team projects



Evangelize monitoring strategy, policies and tooling to other Demonware teams



Serve as an expert for technical escalation within the team, as well as an expert consultant for other teams who have questions about monitoring best practices


Design and build the next generation of state-of-the-art game monitoring and incident communications pipelines


Skills required:


Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written



Strong Linux skills and experience



Experience in automating operational tasks



Experience working with monitoring systems, such as Sensu, Nagios, Graphite/Grafana, etc



5-8 years relevant work experience, high-volume or large-scale environments a plus



Practical coding/scripting experience, preferably in python or bash


Optional but highly desired:


Previous experience in a technical leadership role



Experience with configuration management systems, e.g. Puppet, Chef, CFEngine, and application containers such as Docker/Kubernetes



Experience with data analytics
