Pixel Toys is looking for an Experienced Game Designer with passion, a deep understanding and experience of designing successful mobile free-to-play titles. Someone that knows how to craft great playing games and ready to take the next step in their career.
As a core team member, you will be responsible for working with the creative leads and game team, helping to take the vision from concept to completion. You will work in a flexible and fun environment, having the opportunity to add your own ideas to the mix to help create the most enjoyable and entertaining games possible.

As a candidate for this role, you are expected to have successfully worked through the full development life cycle of at least one free-to-play game, as well as having experience of data driven design.
Own the game’s design, ensuring the vision is upheld and all features and gameplay are developed to the highest possible standard.
Work alongside the creative and business leads to help identify and find solutions to critical quality issues.
Be aware of the commercial goals and project constraints, tailoring solutions accordingly.
Break down high level features into detail, manage team collaboration / brainstorm sessions, write user stories and support management / prioritisation of the backlog.
Create detailed design specifications including: core gameplay, reward and meta systems, feature work, UX and UI flows, backstory and conceptual elements.
Write required game narrative / text and implement this and localisation in game.
Help define, script and iterate level content.
Conduct detailed analysis of competing games and share this knowledge with the team.
Balance the core gameplay, meta game and economy, iterating these areas based on user testing and analytics
Conduct user testing sessions, documenting all feedback and identifying follow up actions.
Develop the UX design ensuring all player-facing elements are well defined, flow effectively and efficiently, and gameplay and key systems are introduced in an engaging manner.
Proactively work with the analytics team to identify areas of investigation relating to a game’s KPIs and iterate the game design based on data analysis.
Keep abreast of the latest free-to-play game design techniques and trends in all sectors of the games industry.
Support the studio in identifying the next products we could make by submitting original and innovative concepts.
Support the other games in development by providing regular feedback.
Job Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Experience
Ideally you will have most or all of the following:
The passion to create the best possible games that push at the boundaries of what's possible on mobile and VR.
Be well versed in the latest free-to-play design methods.
Experience designing one or more published titles – able to demonstrate a key role within the development of those titles, and overall design responsibility for at least one.
Mobile free-to-play development experience including working alongside analytics and monetisation teams to improve KPIs and player satisfaction through data driven design.
A deep understanding of metagame design, specifically regarding progression, retention and reward mechanics.
A thorough understanding of developing gameplay from the ground up through iterative development.
Experience collaborating within a close knit team and able to take critical feedback in your stride.
Be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written form to all levels within the organisation.
Proficiency with MS Office / Google Docs or a comparable package for the creation of design documentation and spreadsheets.
Possess strong analytical skills and creative skills.
Show an interest in psychology, user behaviour and cognitive science.
An avid games player across different genres and platforms.
A recognised university degree with a final grade of 2:1 or higher relevant to game development.
We'll be really pleased if you have:
Good understanding of Agile / SCRUM development, experience writing stories and acceptance criteria
UI production skills – ability with Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator
Presentation layout skills, using PowerPoint or a similar package
Confidence articulating ideas, analysis and results to groups of 30+ people.
UI implementation experience – ideally using Unity’s uGUI system
Unity scripting skills and or knowledge of C#
Experience creating and shipping Unity titles
Experience developing on iOS, Android
Experience creating and shipping VR titles
Created innovative games and really fun experiences as either part of University coursework or personal projects.
