GAME DESIGNER (COMBAT)

Deep Silver Dambuster Studios have an exciting opportunity within their highly talented and experienced design department for a Game Designer specialising in combat and player traversal.

You will be working on an established AAA Title for Next Gen Consoles and PC platforms. If you have the passion for creating exceptional content and building the best game experiences possible, we’d love to speak to you!

Responsibilities

  • Understand the workings of all core player systems (including traversal and combat), with the ability to iterate, polish and balance them
  • Work with the Lead Game Designer and Game Director to shape and prove out in gameplay the vision for the player experience
  • Collaborate with the Technical and Level Design teams to ensure a synergy with their respective areas and the core player systems, with all aspects working together for the best experience possible
  • Create clear and concise high-level documents and detailed specifications for features and systems
  • Actively seek feedback on game systems to drive quality and work with the GamesLab team to organise playtests to trial gameplay systems
  • Analyse and deconstruct feedback and telemetry to make judgements on the future direction of systems
  • Design and iterate game features and mechanics from concept to release
  • Ensure game mechanics are fully realised and represented within the game world
  • Work closely with other departments as part of workgroups to integrate and refine game content
  • Take responsibility for ensuing key information is communicated in the correct manner to our players
  • Ensure deadlines are met to the highest quality possible

Required

  • Positive, professional attitude with a willingness to take design feedback when offered
  • Expert knowledge of modern game combat systems and techniques
  • Strong knowledge of a visual design tool such as Unreal Editor
  • Confidence using data tables and curves to hone the player experience
  • Strong understanding of game design fundamentals
  • Ability to evolve game designs, as directed by the Lead Game Designer
  • Outstanding team player
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills and an extreme attention to detail
  • Previously shipped AAA titles and/or exceptional quality portfolio
  • A strong passion for action gameplay and games in general
  • Clear understanding of logic and good problem solving ability

Preferred

  • Previous experience of working on FPS and Melee Combat systems as part of a design role
  • Working knowledge of Unreal Engine and the according toolset
  • Knowledge of visual scripting (Unreal Blueprint or similar)
  • Knowledge of game animation techniques and systems
