Role and Purpose
Sumo are looking for a Game Designer with world and mission design expertise to fulfil an important role on our Unreal world building team. Working with the Lead Designer, Level Design team, Core Gameplay Pillar Leads and Art Team you will be responsible for crafting the setting, environment, interactions and story-telling within the game world.
The ideal candidate will have significant first person shooter experience and will be able to wrangle the best out of Unreal 4.
We are looking for a candidate who can appreciate the many strands of dependencies, systems and motivations that need to be considered to make engaging activities, missions and tasks; someone who knows how to take all of that information and shape it into coherent, nail-biting and fun objectives that players want to invest their time and energy into completing.
It is crucial that candidates have a keen sense of moment-to-moment detail as well as an understanding of over-arching positioning, progression and narrative requirements.

Construct Initial mission framework from the rough shape and placement of buildings and roads to any important natural landmarks and vegetation.
Placing NPCs, Enemies, Interactive scenarios to provide engaging balanced gameplay following the rhythm of the level flow, delivering the key mission beats and creating a deep living breathing world experience.
Using Unreal’s Blueprint system and custom tools you will implement the more structured elements of the various mission threads to generate the overall gameplay experience.
Polish, tune, balance and debug until you have shippable content.
Work closely with all elements of game production to ensure the complete experience is developed on time, including: SFX, VFX, Music, Animation, Narrative, UI, System Support.
