About Splash Damage

Splash Damage is an independently-owned studio on the outskirts of London, and we're all about crafting engaging multiplayer experiences. In recent years, we have launched our multiplayer shooter Dirty Bomb on PC, shipped Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and collaborated on Gears of War 4. We are now working on Gears of War 4 DLC and several other high-profile projects on PC and console. We’re looking for talented artists to help make them great!

The Role

Splash Damage is looking for a talented Lead Environment Artist to help us build stunning and inspiring environments for upcoming titles. As a Lead Environment Artist, you will be responsible for Splash Damage’s Environment Art team on Gears of War 4.

Working within our multi-discipline art team, you will be leading artists, setting workflows, providing visual benchmarks and mentoring. You’ll be inspiring the team and setting the map art quality bar while collaborating with art direction and art leads to ensure the maps are fun to play and look visually impressive.

Responsibilities at a glance

You will maintain a consistently high standard of quality ensuring artistic and technical execution are on point, and work with other artists within the studio to further improve art practices.

Lead, motivate and inspire a team of creative artists to help them to maintain quality, efficiency and consistency through feedback and mentoring.
Work with the art leads and art director to develop the visual style, project planning, workflows, pipelines, maintain performance requirements and to define the quality bar for the game.
Maintain a great level of communication within your team, art leads and production.

Essential Skills and Experience

Experience leading a team (5 to 10 years of experience as a senior or lead environment artist with shipped titles).
Strong understanding of art fundamentals and design (including a strong understanding of composition and colour).
Great artistic knowledge of environment art workflows and pipelines (modelling, mapping, texturing and world building).
Great technical knowledge of 3D packages, texturing packages and game engines like Unreal.
Good communication skills.
High level of autonomy and initiative.
Ability to receive and provide clear feedback.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Understanding of project management (scoping, planning and scheduling)
Experience with Unreal Engine.
Ability to devise clean workflows and best practices.
Experience with lighting and painting.
