Cinematics Director


Capcom Vancouver is growing! We have three projects in play, all of which are unannounced. There is lots of work to be done!  We need the help of smart, passionate and dedicated people to help us make our open world action games!
Capcom Vancouver is looking for a Cinematic Director that is primarily driven to tell story through animation be it with motion capture actors or hand keying in 3D. Do you have a great understanding of film and pacing as well as the technical problem solving ability needed to get your scenes in game? Then you're probably the person we're looking for!


  • Oversees all creative aspects cinematic animation content in the game including direction of storyboarding, scheduling, blocking direction through to final cinematics.
  • Work closely with all support related departments (Narrative Design, Game Design, Art, and Audio) to maintain vision
  • Direct motion capture and performance capture sessions
  • Direct and/or supervise Voice Over sessions
  • Manages the creation of cinematic content developed both internally and by third parties.
  • Establishes quality and style expectations from a consumer point of view
  • Oversight of the aesthetic development of outsourced cinematics.
  • Maintain the production pipeline and process for the cinematics team
  • Create, maintain and present supporting documentation for cinematic direction
  • Able to build confidence both within the team and with partners though effective and inspiring communication.
  • Able to promote and reinforce a healthy culture within the animation team
  • Provides direction and influences process with respect to legal aspects of asset creation.
  • Solves problems across the product.
  • Uses time effectively.
  • Communicates in a clear, positive and professional manner with all levels of internal staff (Capcom Vancouver & worldwide) and external partners (outside Capcom)
  • Sets the qualitative benchmark for content in the game within a certain area (cinematic animation)
  • Shares expertise across multiple projects and through external vendors.
  • Clearly understands dependencies between own work and that of others across all areas and disciplines, and adapts work accordingly.
  • Able to build confidence both within the team and with partners though execution.
  • Provides direction and influences process with respect to legal aspects of asset creation.
  • Solves problems across the studio.
  • Provide clear visual direction across the cinematic discipline to create a great video game experience
  • Collaborate with our Project Managers to define and maintain schedules and plan resources
  • Demonstrate a high level of creativity and originality within a licensed IP
  • Define and meet pre-production and early development goals
  • Work collaboratively with publishing partners to establish and deliver visual targets
  • Oversee the visual development of proposed projects and convey those ideas to current and prospective clients
  • 7- 10+ years of experience
  • Ability to own multiple workgroups/game. Handle multiple priorities at this level and set priorities for others.
  • Takes active interest in enhancing current skills and learning new ones.
  • Regularly innovates craft and process adopted by own game and other games.
  • Demonstrates dedication, adaptability & accountability in own work and areas of responsibility.
  • Drives collaboration effectively with others in same discipline, across feature groups and cross-discipline on a regular basis; works closely with game & studio exec teams
  • Must be able to mentor leads and groups.
  • Member of game leads group, and defines features.
  • Act as a role model.
  • 5+ years overall experience in a hands-on animation capacity within a gaming or film company, during which you have shipped a minimum of 3 x AAA titles preferably (not required) of the Action genre
  • 2+ years of your experience must have been in a lead capacity where you have overseen the technical artistic efforts of at least 4 staff.
  • Experience with high end character acting and facial acting animation ability
  • Ideally you have directed, participated and worked with motion capture assets.
  • Prior experience with Motion Builder or Maya is a must
  • Excellent personal project and task management skills
  • Forward thinking Animation professional who researches new industry developments and art techniques
  • Diplomatic and inspirational communicator, open to feedback and constructive evaluation
