Relic Entertainment, a wholly owned studio of SEGA, is the award winning RTS developer of Homeworld, Dawn of War and Company of Heroes, among other games and we’re on the hunt for a permanent full-time Senior Game Designer to join our Design team in Vancouver, Canada. The Senior Game Designer will be responsible for translating game vision into tangible, understandable, and enjoyable game mechanics while championing and driving major game components. You’ll be working closely with other disciplines to deliver a holistic experience for our players. By taking a leadership role within the design team, and the studio, you will be an advocate for the game vision and strive to deliver a unique and meaningful gameplay experience.
This role will work in partnership with our Game Director to push the boundaries of the strategy genre using equal parts innovation and presentation. We’re building a game that is next generation – and we’re looking for someone who is excited to be a part of Relic’s future!
We’re looking for someone who has…
-Spent 6-8+ years in a Designer role on multiple titles with a focus on systems/gameplay design
-Contributed significantly to at least 1 shipped AAA title in a senior or lead role
-Experience in the full gamut of development from early prototyping to shipping a major title
-A strong understanding of design systems, methodology
-A strong sense of process honed by experience, and a personality that thrives in a collaborative environment
-A passion for playing and making games, and who excels in a typical game development culture
What you’ll be doing…
-Supporting the Executive Producer, game director, design team, and other discipline leads translate vision into gameplay worthy of a Relic title
-Working with other disciplines to deliver a deeply holistic design – from sound to animation, every element of the game becomes part of the palette of the experience
-Taking the lead on a major game component and with a team of veteran and dedicated designers
-Utilizing your skill and experience to help mentor the team and solve exciting challenges
-Working collaboratively with an experienced team of passionate, sometimes obsessive, game developers, deeply excited about the future of gaming
It’s a bonus if you have…
-Post-secondary education in game design
-Strategy game development experience
-Other discipline experience: level design; progression design; animation/motion trees; scripting or other technical experience
