Role and Purpose

Sumo have an extraordinary opportunity for a talented and experienced Open World/Level Designer to head up a key design pillar on a highly ambitious, character driven AAA console project.


-Working with the lead designer and lead narrative designer to design the content of the game to provide a living breathing world that reacts to the player’s actions.
-Design of player quests and missions driven by the game's over-arching narrative as well as the specific player character backgrounds and believable events, actions and characters within the game world.
-Managing a team of mission builders to design, build and iterate on gameplay content in the form of quests, missions and side quests to create a world and objectives not only based around the narrative but that also provide depth to the gameplay experience simulating a living open world.
-Evangelise, contextualise and create all aspects of the design that feed into the ambience and credibility of the game world as a living, breathing world.
-This is a hands-on position as well as having high-level operations responsibilities.

Skills Experience and Qualifications

-Experience developing open-world quests, characters, ambient activities, economies, immersive behaviours and game missions in a Lead or Senior capacity on a AAA console title is essential experience for this role.
