Obsidian Entertainment is looking for an experienced, talented Systems Designer to join our team.
The Systems Designer position requires an objective, analytical mind. The ideal candidate will be creative, practical, and adaptable. Candidates should be highly detail-oriented with a capacity for breaking abstract ideas down into practical categories, rules, and parameters. Candidates should also have a strong capacity for analyzing vast amounts of disparate data, making sense of it, and then developing methods for improving game systems based on this analysis.

Collaborate with an established team of designers to develop existing game system as well as define new systems and features.
Interface design to support gameplay mechanics and features.
Take ownership of the design and implementation of core game mechanics.
Document and refine game system and feature designs.
Actively participate in creative and technical problem solving discussions.
Analyze, understand, and tune huge amounts of data to improve game features.
Iterate on existing game systems until they are awesome.
Two years prior experience in the game industry as a system design with at least one shipped title.
Strong understanding of PvP game systems and balance.
Ability to communicate a vision, present ideas, listen to the ideas of others, and accept critical feedback objectively.
Highly analytical with a focus on details.
Versatility and adaptability when learning new tools and software.
Proficient in balancing game systems for difficultly, progression, and fun.
High proficiency with Excel.
Prior experience in first- or third-person shooter game development, specifically those with a strong PvP (player vs. player) component.
Prior experience with free-to-play product development.
Prior experience with MMO game mechanics and product development.
Professional experience using CryEngine.
Experience in other fields of game development (programming, level design, production, art, audio, etc.)
Prior experience with Atlassian products (JIRA and Confluence).
Prior experience with weaving narrative elements into gameplay systems.
