ABOUT THE POSITION
We are seeking an experienced Technical Animator to join our game development team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in bridging the gap between animation and engineering by supporting post-motion capture processing, rigging, and integration of animations into the game engine. You will work closely with animators, riggers, and engineers to ensure smooth, realistic character performances and seamless animation integration in the game.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean up mocap data using MotionBuilder, including refining and adjusting animations to meet the project's quality standards.
- Add and adjust hand animations that are not captured during mocap sessions.
- Attach props to prop joints and fix clipping or intersection issues between characters and environment or props.
- Center the animated character root to the scene and bake skeletons for animation use.
- Export animations using proprietary tools for integration into the game engine .
- Collaborate with the animation and technical animation teams to assemble animations within the game engine and handle scene setup.
- Polish animation clips in-engine, clean up transitions to improve flow and realism.
- Supplement the animation system with pre-existing animations where necessary to enhance quality and variety.
- Troubleshoot technical animation issues and work closely with engineers to optimize performance and quality.
QUALIFICATIONS - Proven experience as a Technical Animator or similar role within the game development industry.
- Proficiency in MotionBuilder for mocap data cleanup and adjustment.
- Strong understanding of animation pipelines and tools including Maya and motion capture workflows.
- Experience exporting animations for game engines.
- Good scripting or programming skills for tool development or automation (e.g., Python, MEL, or similar) is a plus.
- Ability to identify and solve animation clipping, intersection, and transition issues.
- Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong eye for animation quality and technical precision.
Preferred: - Background in rigging or technical rigging preferred.
- Familiarity with engine-level animation assembly and handling scene setup
