Are you an experienced Senior Environment Artist with expertise in Unreal Engine 5, modular environment design and open‑world world‑building?

Join a remote‑first game development team building a new MMO, where you’ll craft immersive, large‑scale environments that support exploration, combat and storytelling. You’ll play a key role in shaping both the visual quality of the game world and the production pipelines used to build it, working in an early‑stage environment where your decisions will have long‑term impact.

About the role

You will take ownership of environment production across zones, hubs and points of interest, transforming level design blockouts into rich, cohesive game spaces. Working closely with art leadership and cross‑disciplinary teams, you’ll contribute not only to asset creation but also to the development of scalable workflows, modular kits and pipeline standards. This is a hands‑on role with strong autonomy and influence over both creative and technical decisions.

What you’ll do

  • Build and deliver high‑quality 3D environments from blockout through to final polish
  • Translate level design layouts into visually rich, readable and immersive spaces
  • Create modular kits, props, materials, textures and environment assets for reuse across the world
  • Apply purposeful set dressing to enhance storytelling, atmosphere and gameplay clarity
  • Establish strong composition, focal points and visual hierarchy within environments
  • Collaborate with level design, lighting, VFX and narrative teams to ensure cohesive results
  • Optimise assets and scenes for performance across large‑scale multiplayer environments
  • Contribute to pipeline development, workflows, naming conventions and asset organisation
  • Provide constructive feedback to other artists and help raise overall quality standards

What we’re looking for

Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in environment art or world building
  • At least one shipped game title in a relevant role
  • Experience building environments for RPGs, MMOs or open‑world games
  • Strong experience working in Unreal Engine 5
  • Proven experience with modular workflows and scalable asset creation

Skills

  • Strong 3D modelling skills using tools such as Maya, Blender or 3ds Max
  • Deep understanding of PBR workflows and texturing tools such as Substance Painter or Designer
  • Experience optimising assets for real‑time performance, including LODs and instancing
  • Strong understanding of composition, lighting, colour and gameplay readability
  • Knowledge of large‑scale environment production including streaming and world partitioning
  • Ability to work independently and deliver complete environments from concept to final output
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to have

  • Experience working on MMOs or persistent online worlds
  • Familiarity with Nanite and Virtual Texture workflows
  • Experience with procedural tools such as Houdini or Unreal PCG systems
  • Experience with terrain sculpting and landscape tools in Unreal
  • Background in stylised or non‑photorealistic art styles
  • Experience collaborating closely with lighting and VFX teams

Working style / behaviours

  • Highly autonomous with strong ownership of deliverables
  • Comfortable working in early‑stage, evolving environments
  • Responsive to feedback and able to iterate quickly
  • Focused on balancing visual quality with gameplay clarity
  • Organised and mindful of long‑term scalability and pipeline discipline

Why join

  • Opportunity to shape the world and pipelines of a new MMO from early production
  • Fully remote role with a collaborative international team
  • High level of ownership and creative input
  • Work on a large‑scale, long‑term live‑service project
  • Studio culture focused on autonomy, collaboration and continuous improvement

If you’re a world‑building environment artist who thrives in a collaborative, early‑stage development environment, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now or email Ryan Templeman - rt@skillsearch.com
