Senior Java Backend & DevOps EngineerRemote within CET/CEST -/+ 2 or within Hamburg

We're looking for a Senior Java Backend & DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate high-throughput backend systems supporting millions of players. This is a hands-on role where you'll own services end-to-end, from architecture and implementation through to infrastructure, deployment, scaling, and production support.

You'll work across Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and distributed systems, with a strong focus on performance, resilience, and reliability. A key part of the role is also pioneering agentic development workflows, using multiple AI agents, custom tools, automated testing, and review processes to significantly increase engineering output while maintaining strong technical standards.

What we're looking for:

  • 6+ years of expert-level Java backend experience
  • Strong distributed systems, concurrency, and SQL optimisation skills
  • Deep AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform experience
  • Strong knowledge of MySQL and Redis
  • Proven experience with agentic AI development workflows
  • Excellent architectural judgement and problem-solving skills
Nice to have:
  • Experience with gaming backends
  • Familiarity with Kafka, Kinesis, or SQS/SNS
  • Experience with real-time telemetry or anti-cheat systems
  • Experience building custom AI tools, MCP servers, or agentic workflows
