Location: Hamburg, Germany or Malta (Hybrid)
Relocation Support provided.

We're looking for a Head of Game Development to lead the engineering function across a portfolio of live and in-development games. This is a strategic leadership role focused on building high-performing teams, developing engineering leaders, and driving technical excellence across multiple game projects.

You'll partner closely with technology, design, and art leadership to shape engineering strategy, establish consistent technical standards, and ensure teams have the support and direction needed to deliver high-quality games. Rather than being hands-on with coding, you'll focus on mentoring leaders, growing engineering capability, and creating an environment where teams can thrive.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams within game development
  • Strong background across game client, backend, or server engineering
  • Experience with technologies such as Unity, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP or Node.js
  • Track record of developing engineering leaders and scaling teams
  • Experience delivering live service games and managing multiple projects
  • Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills
Nice to have:
  • Experience defining engineering career frameworks and mentoring programmes
  • Passion for improving engineering culture and developer experience
  • Interest in AI-assisted development workflows and continuous improvement
