* Manage team of 7 - mentoring & raising their design skills
* Established studio of 60 staff
* 12 games recently published on new game distribution platform
* Permanent fulltime role with 6 month probation period
Description
As Design Director, you will be responsible for setting the game design strategy across the company.
You will be reporting to the General Manager as part of the leadership team, to steer the company in creating fun game experiences for our users.
Responsibilities:
- Define and update the studio's design strategy for the next six-twelve months
- Work with the Product Director in defining game development strategies and KPIs.
- The product director defines what we build and why, you define how.
- Define studio's design principles and uphold design excellence across the company
- Research on the latest game design trends and continuously look for ways to improve our design thinking
- Supervise day-to-day design work across games, providing guidance and approval for multiple projects in production
- Work with the Lead Game Designer in training, reviewing, and growing the design team
- Handle 1:1s, meaningful discussions, and performance reviews for direct reports
- Screens applicants, onboards new hires, and performance manage if needed
- Challenge each designer to grow and do their best work, providing feedback on their craft and performance via 1:1s and performance reviews
Requirements:
- 15+ years of professional experience in mobile and/or web game design, with at least 10 years of experience in a senior role, and 5 years in a leadership / executive / C- level team
- Expert understanding of game design (core loop, progression, engagement, monetization, etc) with a drive to continuously learn and improve
- Excellent people management skills - a coach and mentor at heart with demonstrated results
- Excellent English verbal and written communications skills, can command a room
- Proactive, decisive, and outspoken, with the ability to inspire change
