ATRA collaborates with game studios around the world to help build ambitious games across PC and console platforms. Our team is composed of experienced developers who care deeply about craft, collaboration and delivering high-quality game experiences.
We are currently looking to connect with Backend Developers who specialize in gameplay and platform services. We're interested in engineers who bring strong expertise in building and maintaining the backend systems that power modern game experiences: from real-time gameplay services to live operations infrastructure.
Depending on the project, you may integrate directly with partner teams as part of their development pipeline or contribute to backend systems developed within ATRA.
What you'll work on
- Designing and implementing scalable backend services supporting gameplay systems and platform features
- Building and maintaining REST APIs and microservices that serve live game clients
- Contributing to the development and improvement of core platform services within large production environments
- Collaborating closely with gameplay engineers, designers and platform teams to translate product requirements into reliable backend implementations
- Debugging complex distributed system issues and maintaining service stability throughout development and live operations
- Participating in code reviews and technical discussions to maintain high engineering standards
- Supporting and improving development and deployment workflows where needed
What we're looking for
Requirements:
- 4+ years of professional experience in backend software development
- Strong programming skills in Python and solid software engineering fundamentals
- Professional experience designing and building REST APIs and microservices architectures
- Hands-on experience with distributed systems and the challenges they bring
- Proficiency with AWS services such as ECS, EC2, Lambda, S3, IAM, etc.
- Experience working with relational and in-memory databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and Redis
- Comfortable navigating and contributing to large or long-lived codebases
- Good understanding of software architecture and maintainable system design
- Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities
- Experience using version control systems such as Git or Perforce
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows
Nice to have:
- Experience with additional languages such as Go, Java or C#
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or Pub/Sub
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Kibana or Datadog
- Experience working on live service games or operating backend systems under live conditions
- Comfortable working with distributed teams or external partners
