ATRA collaborates with game studios around the world to help build ambitious games across PC, console and emerging platforms. Our team brings together experienced developers who care deeply about craft, collaboration and the long-term impact of the games we help create.
We are currently looking to connect with 2D Illustrators specializing in narrative and atmospheric artwork to support the creation of cinematic storytelling sequences within our projects.
This role focuses on creating illustrated scenes and layered paintings used in narrative moments such as prologues, epilogues and story-driven sequences. These artworks are designed to work with camera movement, parallax and subtle animation, helping convey story and mood through strong visual composition.
The ideal candidate combines strong traditional illustration skills with an understanding of how artwork integrates into interactive storytelling.

Creating high-quality illustrated scenes for narrative sequences in games
Producing layered paintings designed for parallax and camera movement
Collaborating with narrative, art direction and design teams to develop visual storytelling moments
Ensuring artwork supports tone, atmosphere and pacing within cinematic sequences
Preparing layered artwork suitable for minimal animation and visual effects integration
Iterating on illustrations based on art direction and narrative needs
Requirements:
3+ years of experience as an Illustrator, 2D Artist or similar role in games, film or related industries
A strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality painted illustrations and narrative scenes
Excellent skills in digital painting, composition, lighting and atmosphere
Ability to create artwork that conveys mood, storytelling and emotional tone
Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Photoshop or equivalent digital painting software
Understanding of layered artwork and how it can support camera movement
Ability to take direction and iterate based on narrative and art feedback
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Professional working proficiency in English
Nice to have:
Experience working on cinematic storytelling sequences for games
Experience creating artwork intended for parallax animation or motion graphics
Background in matte painting or visual storytelling for film / animation
Familiarity with tools used in 2D animation or compositing workflows
Experience supporting dark, atmospheric or stylized visual directions
