Senior Concept Artist

I'm working with Unbroken Studios, based in Los Angeles County, as they're on the lookout for a Senior Concept Artist with YOUR skills! They're a team made up of 40+ veteran developers who have worked on some of the biggest titles of the last twenty years, including blockbuster franchises such as; Battlefield, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and God of War.

You will be moving into a fantastic, modern, open-plan studio that promotes collaborative working. The studio prides itself on a work hard play hard mentality, with BBQ and movie nights throughout the year. Who wouldn't want to work on AAA games and have monthly BBQs in the sun?

Your day-to-day will include:

Build, sketch, ideate, and iterate 2D sketches and detailed renderings in collaboration with other developers (for 3D artists and animators to implement into working game assets)

Work closely with the Art Director and art team to visualise and develop the final look of game elements

Work with the Art Director to champion process improvements, generate best practice standards, and evolve the craft of visual design across the company

Perform research and analysis on given visual subjects

Generate mood boards and sketches that present options and solutions within the remit provided

Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the product goals and design direction

Rapidly adapt creative styles as needed, while ensuring that all output adheres to the core game pillars and brand values

Collaborate and communicate with Art Directors, UX Designers, Game Designers, and Producers

The skills and XP you'll need to succeed include:

5+ years professional game development experience or 1 shipped game title (or equivalent experience in a related field such as film or animation production)

Proficiency in the use of Photoshop, Illustrator, or other digital painting tools

Skilled at traditional painting/rendering techniques

The ability to work in a variety of styles, including stylised and realistic sensibilities

A portfolio that demonstrates an expert understanding of fundamental illustration skills (perspective, anatomy, expression, color, light theory, shape language, as well as 2D design principles including composition, value, and visual hierarchy)

Willingness to continue to learn and improve your own skills and help other team members to do the same.

Ability to rapidly iterate concepts and produce a variety of quick sketches showing different approaches to the same design

Proactively improves skill set and abilities by keeping aware of industry trends and craft techniques, evaluating competing products and learning new software packages

Familiarity with video game product development (workflow, tools, limits of technology, character turnarounds, storyboarding, marketing material and graphic design)
