Programming - Programming Manager

Location: Wakefield

Contract Type: Permanent

Team17 is known for original, high quality games including The Escapists, Overcooked!, Yooka-Laylee, Hell Let Loose and of course Worms. The company floated on the AIM exchange in 2018, and has recently moved to customised in Wakefield.

The culture is vibrant and focused, the studio and the slate are growing (180 persons in Wakefield) and there is a pride born of success. A Programming Manager is needed to oversee projects at the internal studio and from partners signed to the Games Label – a co-development model between Wakefield and independent studios is proving highly productive.

The Programming Manager will assess risk, oversee planning, trouble-shoot, share insights and juggle resources to align development with game and company objectives.

You will be responsible for:

  • Planning ahead to ensure project and team risks are identified and appropiate actions are taken.
  • Reviewing project schedules and technical plans and ensuring that we have appropriate expertise in the department to cover required delivery.
  • Supporting teams with technical knowledge and experience to provide the very best game experience.
  • Ensuring – with Production – timely delivery of projects.
  • Assessing services from suppliers and middleware providers.
  • Planning the structure of the department, hiring new programmers in Wakefield and mentoring their development within the studio.
You will bring:
  • An ability to communicate cross-discipline on technical subjects and so be understood by all stakeholders
  • Advanced knowledge/experience of developing games with Unreal or Unity
  • Advanced C++ knowledge including games architecture and optimization experience
  • An appetite for the challenges of distributed game development.
  • Experience of making successful hires.
Even more cool if you also bring:
  • Ability to prototype and introduce new technical solutions
  • Advanced knowledge of one or more programming specialisms – Systems, AI, Rendering, Networking, UI.
  • Experience developing games on console platforms – Xbox One, PS4, Switch

Keep Calm and waka waka...
