The studio partner for our podcast this month is the fantastic VR studio nDreams! They sat down and chatted to our very own Jamie Clarke to cover all things gaming! From how to apply to a job in the industry, what they look for in their own applications as well as the more difficult topics like Brexit and Crunch.
nDreams are an award-winning virtual reality developer and publisher, dedicated to high-end games and experiences. Since 2013, nDreams have launched a host of titles and have built an impressive team of over 60 industry professionals to deliver quality VR content.
Boasting team members that have worked at industry heavy-weights such as Microsoft, EA, SEGA and Square Enix they have a wealth of experience in their own specialist fields. nDreams can boast at having one of the most experienced studios in the industry and have worked with leading VR and entertainment companies such as Oculus, Microsoft, Sony, Google, HTC and Samsung.
Founded in 2006 by Tammy and Patrick O’Luanaigh as a small studio with a lot of ideas, nDreams has come a long way in the last 13 years. In 2008 they released their first experience for PlayStation Home, an alternative reality game named Xi. It was a one-time-only play, progressing in real-time and was only available on PS3, the game centered around finding ‘Jess’ and the meaning of Xi by collecting clues found in a series of secret areas in Home that changed frequently. But the big point of difference for Xi was that is also encouraged users to search for clues in the real world.
nDreams continued to work with the PlayStation Home platform until it closed in 2015. Creating titles for the network such as Aurora.
It was in 2013 when nDreams found their calling. From the moment they put on their first VR headset, they knew there was no turning back. To nDreams, the future of gaming was obvious, and there was no turning back.
The release of their first tech demo SkyDIEving followed shortly and it remains one of the most downloaded free VR experiences available. The first commercial VR titles followed shortly after in 2015 with Gunner and Perfect Beach. nDreams had their first high-end VR title launch with The Assembly in 2016.
nDreams is an incredibly inclusive studio which offers a supportive environment for everyone joining the business. Whether you’re a graduate starting your first job in the games industry or a veteran bringing a wealth of experience to the studio. nDreams has a focus on work/life balance, as a family-oriented company, they have a flexible approach to work that includes core hours and duvet days. They also work hard to avoid excessive working hours and crunch. nDreams were winners of the Grads in Games award for 'Best Graduate Employer' in 2018 and have been shortlisted for the award again this year.
