People Can Fly is one of the leading independent AAA games development studios with an international team of hundreds of talented individuals working from offices located in Poland, UK, Ireland, US, and Canada and from all over the world thanks to our remote work programs.

Founded in 2002, we made our mark on the shooter genre with titles such as Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, and Outriders. We are one of the most experienced Unreal Engine studios in the industry and we are expanding it with in-house solutions called PCF Framework.

Our creative teams are currently working on several exciting titles: Gemini is our new project being developed with Square Enix; Maverick is a Triple-A game developed in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation; Bifrost & Victoria are projects we're growing in the self-publishing model. We are also busy working on a VR and undisclosed projects, more information on those to come later.

Project Red is a yet unannounced game. The game development involves primarily our Europe based teams.

Job Description

  • Constantly test theories, iterate on ideas and challenge assumptions.
  • Full ownership of the produced function - from conceptual and paper design, through the prototyping phase, scripting, iteration, debugging, optimization - until delivery of the game.
  • Owning, prototyping, iterating on, and implementing and balancing game systems.
  • Working with the Creative Director to support the creative vision, long-term design goals, and maintain the quality of the game's design and content.
  • Working with producers to determine tasks and schedules and collaborating on game design documentation.
  • Proactively identify workflow issues and offer solutions.
  • Designing multiplayer and/or single player gameplay.
  • Conduct playtest sessions for involved developers (level designers, artists, animators and programmers) to discuss and improve implemented prototypes.
  • Collect and process of player data and feedback and based on that propose changes to the game mechanics.
  • Writing proposals and final easy to follow docs for all aspects of the game's design.
  • Define game balance and create game balancing systems.
  • Build simulations and spreadsheets to evaluate their effectiveness / impact.
  • Define the metrics which allow balancing and tuning game.
  • Remain current on industry trends, including new game genres, new game design methods and techniques, and trending audio visual excellence.
  • Create detailed and easy to follow design documentation.
  • Sharing knowledge with less experienced peers.
  • Occasionally support Lead in recruitment projects with HR collaboration.
  • Occasionally can onboard new hires.
  • Pushing the industry standards of game design.
  • 80% of time spent in Engine.


Qualifications

  • Typically 7+ years of experience in the production of games for consoles and PC.
  • Typically at least 2 shipped titles in a senior role, with a history of successful features.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Strong theoretical & practical knowledge of game design practices.
  • Excellent creativity to generate innovative concepts, mechanics and ideas.
  • Deep understanding of systems design, player psychology, and emerging industry trends.
  • Experience with visual scripting systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of Unreal Engine.
  • Experience working (rapid prototyping) with Unreal Engine.
  • Experience working with a variety of established game toolsets.
  • Solid experience owning, prototyping, iterating on, and implementing and balancing player progression systems on RPG titles.
  • Self-motivation.
  • Knowledge of RPG and shooter genre games.
  • Strong mentoring skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.


Nice to have:

  • Previously shipped multiple action RPG, Shooter or similar games with focus on mechanics within 3Cs, AI, combat encounters etc.
  • Has a deep understanding of how to create great moment to moment mechanics.
  • Scripting experience.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Bachelor's degree in game design or any related field
